Our Lady Of Natal School

ABOUT OUR CURRICULUM

Convent School of Our Lady of Natal was founded by the Oakford Dominican Sisters and opened its doors in January 1964. Our School's birthday, however, is celebrated on the 15th August every year. This date was chosen because it is the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady, patron of South Africa.

We are an Independent Foundation Phase School with a firm commitment to the Catholic Ethos and Values of our founding Dominican Sisters.

We are open to girls and boys of all races from 3 years to Grade 3.

We accept learners from all religions on the understanding that various aspects of the Catholic faith are practiced by all learners at our school. (see Admission Criteria)

Pre-Primary

The Pre-Primary Department is situated in its own building in Baudry Road. It is the original school building, built in 1964 to cater for learners in Grades 1 and 2. From the mid 70's until 1998 it was run as a Preschool under the auspices of the Education Department.   When the last state paid Educator left, the school returned to be part of our Convent family.

We have 3 pre-grade R groups and 3 Grade R groups. We are proud of the fact that we have qualified and experienced Educators.

Our Pre-Primary learners transfer automatically to Grade 1 in the Junior Primary on the Junior Primary campus. The Grade R learners are offered a busy programme in line with the CAPS curriculum for Foundation Phase and work closely with the Grade 1 Educators.

Junior Primary

This department consists of Grades 1, 2 and 3. It is also where the administration office and Principal's office are situated. This building was built in 1968 and was initially built to house a High School. This proved to be not feasible and the building was then used as a primary school from Grade 1 to Grade 7. Several years after this, the school changed to a Junior Primary school only, i.e. Grades 1, 2 & 3.

UMALUSI ACCREDITATION

(Council for quality Assurance in General and further Education and Training)

All Independent schools are required to be accredited by UMALUSI if they are to be recognised and registered by the Department of Basic Education.   We are proud that our school was successful in all areas of this assessment and we received full accreditation on 1st January 2018.
